Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The manuscript is an original work, has not been previously published, and is not currently under consideration by another journal or publisher.
  • The submission file is prepared in Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx), OpenOffice, or RTF document format.
  • The manuscript follows the JSRC Author Guidelines, including formatting, citation style, and reference requirements.
  • The manuscript includes all required components: title, author information, abstract, keywords, main text, and references.
  • The abstract is provided in Bahasa Indonesia and English, and appropriate keywords (3–5 terms) are included.
  • Citations and references follow the APA Style (latest edition) and, where available, DOIs or URLs for references have been provided.
  • Tables, figures, illustrations, and other supplementary elements are placed within the text at appropriate locations.
  • The manuscript has been prepared for double-blind peer review by removing author names, institutional identifiers, acknowledgements, and other identifying information from the manuscript file where required.
  • The manuscript has undergone careful language and grammar checking prior to submission.

Author Guidelines

Manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Socio-Religious and Cultural Studies (JSRC) will be considered for publication provided that they comply with the following guidelines:

  1. Scope and Originality
    Submitted manuscripts must present original, scholarly, and significant contributions relevant to the fields of socio-religious and cultural studies. Manuscripts should address contemporary issues, theoretical developments, empirical research, critical analysis, or interdisciplinary perspectives within the journal’s scope.
  2. Original Submission Policy
    Manuscripts must be original works that have neither been previously published nor simultaneously submitted to another journal, publisher, or publication platform.
  3. Plagiarism and Similarity Screening
    All submissions will undergo a similarity check using plagiarism detection software (e.g., iThenticate or equivalent tools). Manuscripts with a similarity index exceeding 20% may be returned to the authors for revision or rejected at the discretion of the Editorial Board.
  4. Language Requirement
    Manuscripts may be submitted in Bahasa Indonesia or English. Authors are expected to use clear, concise, and academically appropriate language. Manuscripts written in English should demonstrate proper scholarly writing standards.
  5. Manuscript Structure
    Each manuscript should contain the following components, arranged in order:
    • Title of the article
    • Author(s)’ full name(s)
    • Institutional affiliation(s)
    • Email address(es)
    • Abstract
    • Keywords
    • Main text/content
    • Acknowledgement (optional)
    • References
  6. Abstract and Keywords
    The abstract must be written in Bahasa Indonesia and English, with a length of approximately 150–250 words.

For research-based articles, the abstract should briefly include:

    • research objective(s);
    • methodology;
    • major findings; and
    • conclusion or contribution.

For conceptual or review articles, the abstract should summarize:

    • background or issue addressed;
    • analytical discussion; and
    • main conclusion or scholarly contribution.

Authors should provide three to five keywords that accurately reflect the core content of the manuscript. Separate the keywords by semicolon (;).

  1. Length and Formatting
    Manuscripts should be approximately 5,000–8,000 words or 15–20 pages, typed on A4-size paper, using 1.15 line spacing, and formatted according to the JSRC manuscript template.
  2. Citation and Reference Style
    JSRC uses the APA Style (latest edition) for citations and references. Authors are strongly encouraged to use reference management software such as Zotero, Mendeley, EndNote, or similar applications.
  3. References Quality
    References should primarily consist of recent scholarly sources, including journal articles, academic books, and reputable publications relevant to the topic discussed. Authors are encouraged to cite current literature to strengthen the manuscript’s scholarly contribution.
  4. Editorial Rights
    The Editorial Board reserves the right to edit, revise, or adjust the manuscript’s formatting, style, and language without altering its substantive content.
  5. Peer Review and Editorial Decision
    All submitted manuscripts will undergo a double-blind peer-review process. Based on the review results, the editorial decision may be:
  • Accepted without revision
  • Accepted with minor revision
  • Accepted with major revision
  • Rejected
  1. Notification of Decision
    Authors will be notified of the editorial decision regarding their submission through the journal’s submission system or registered email.

  • Authors retain copyright and grant the journal right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License that allows others to share the work with an acknowledgement of the work's authorship and initial publication in this journal.
  • Authors are able to enter into separate, additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the journal's published version of the work (e.g., post it to an institutional repository or publish it in a book), with an acknowledgement of its initial publication in this journal.
  • Authors are permitted and encouraged to post their work online (e.g., in institutional repositories or on their website) prior to and during the submission process, as it can lead to productive exchanges, as well as earlier and greater citation of published work.
